AMS wants to help you attend our meetings – we offer several support opportunities to make this possible.

Student Assistant

Volunteer students are needed for registration and audio/visual support throughout the conference. Volunteers are required to be in attendance the entire conference, and must be available to work at least a full day from Monday through Friday. In exchange for volunteering, students receive one free conference registration, plus $40.00 per day worked for food allowance. This program is offered on a first come, first served basis. Student Presentation Awards

The AMS Committee on Tropical Meteorology and Tropical Cyclones is proud to provide outstanding student presentation awards at the 37th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology. Monetary awards of up will be distributed for oral presentations and poster presentations in addition to a PDF certificate from AMS. Students must be enrolled at a college or university at the time of submission and must be the lead author or presenter of the work. Submitters should indicate their eligibility for student awards when submitting their abstracts. Award recipients will be informed of the committee's decision by May 2026.

Student Participation Support

The 37th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology is offering four (4) awards of up to $250 each to support student presenters participating in the conference in San Diego, CA and Online 30 March - 03 April 2026. The award should be used to offset travel related expenses only (registration fees, transportation, lodging and meals only). It is open to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, who must submit a letter of recommendation from their advisor. In the application, students will be asked to provide information on their academic background, conference participation, funding needs, and any other financial support they receive. Awards are reimbursed after the conference upon submission of receipts, with registration fees optionally applied in advance. The allowance prioritizes students with financial need and those whose participation will benefit their research and professional development. Student Travel Grants

Travel grants will be awarded to students who are not presenting a paper at a conference. Presenters are not eligible to apply. The grant program is available to AMS 2026 student members and member graduate students (those who are in their last undergraduate year or who are current graduate students). Member status will be confirmed.
