Board on Societal Impacts Conference Summaries 2018-19

The 14th Symposium on Societal Applications: Policy, Research and Practice (SOCIETY) included four days of oral presentations and poster sessions at the annual meeting. SOCIETY hosted a special series of panels and presentations on the theme "The Other Uncertainty. Each session was attended by about 100 people. In addition to oral presentations, SOCIETY had about 40 poster presentations. 

The 7th Symposium on Building a Weather-Ready Nation: Enhancing Our Nation (WRN) also sponsored four days of oral presentations, posters and panel discussions at the annual meeting.  WRN hosted 9 sessions, 3 joint sessions and 4 themed joint sessions. However, due to the shutdown, many federal employees were unable to attend and 4 sessions and 1 themed joint session had to be cancelled. 

Major Weather Impacts, There were two days of Major Weather Impacts, one was focused on the Hurricanes of 2018 on Monday with three sessions, and the other was all the other big events of 2018 occurring on Tuesday. There were 40 oral presentations in the program; however,   18 were federal employees, many of whom were not funded to attend. There were about 15 posters in the Tuesday afternoon poster session.  IMPACTS moved to a new home in 2018, and is now part of  CWWCE.

The Fourth Conference on Weather Warnings and Communication, held jointly with the Conference on Broadcast Meteorology will take place in San Diego in June, 2019.
