The AMS Committee on Radar Meteorology exists to serve and strengthen the radar meteorology community. As part of the AMS Scientific and Technological Activities Commission (STAC), the Committee helps guide Society activities related to radar meteorology and related areas, while fostering scientific exchange, professional engagement, and community connections across our field.
One of the Committee’s central responsibilities is organizing the AMS Conference on Radar Meteorology, held every two years. This conference remains one of the primary forums for our community to share advances in radar observations, theory, technology, and applications. In addition, the Committee now oversees the Symposium on Weather Radar at the AMS Annual Meeting, which provides a new annual venue for radar-focused presentations and discussion. This symposium is intended to complement the biennial Radar Conference, while creating additional opportunities for engagement across the broader AMS community.
Beyond conferences, the Committee contributes to radar-related updates to the Glossary of Meteorology, supports STAC-level awards and recognition, and helps promote educational, outreach, and community-building activities. We are especially committed to supporting student and early-career participation, encouraging broad involvement across the radar meteorology community, and helping create opportunities for service, collaboration, and professional growth.
This website is intended to serve as a resource for the radar meteorology community. We invite you to explore the other pages to learn more about the Committee’s activities, upcoming opportunities, and ways to get involved. We welcome your ideas, suggestions, and participation as we continue working to support a vibrant, inclusive, and connected radar community.
