Station Scientists Committee March 13, 2024

Discussion of abstracts from Station Scientist Committee. Each abstract will be 15 minutes, one 30-minute abstract.

Still trying to figure out how to sort out the solar eclipse, SSC, and climate change. Exactly what days these will be presented on is still fluid. Vanessa is trying to figure out which abstracts will be “from SSC”.

6/22, 8:30 in the morning - McCall and Bob like this for presentation times.

Heather discusses her abstract about meteorologists' role in the newsroom and climate reporting.

SSC has 4 presentations, 5 if Elisa’s is included for a total of an hour and a half. It fills the whole slot from 8:30 to 10AM, so this should work.

Vanessa needs to know the order of presentations ASAP, needs to be submitted to AMS by 3/27.

Discussion of the order - Start with Alan Sealls, Heather, Elisa (30 minute), Jan, Solar Eclipse.

Discussion of budget: $800 of $1,500 is spent. Lindsey had talked to her social scientist person about payment but hadn’t confirmed about paying for hers. For Heather and Elisa, McCall says they’ll reimburse for the abstracts. Each submission was $120. Heather says she doesn’t need it. Elisa confirms that would be helpful.

Discussion of registration costs. Confirming actual numbers but buy early because it is expensive. May be able to use remaining budget on covering some of these costs of people that aren’t fully funded. McCall asks when we do reporter voting. Vanessa says May 1st. McCall says she will stay in touch with Vanessa. Another meeting may occur in April or May before the conference.
