Lance Steele earned his Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM #679) in 2012, and served on the AMS Board of Certified Consulting Meteorologists from 2016 to 2020. Lance completed his Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science from the University of Kansas and has worked for Weathernews America, Inc. (WNI) for 20 years. The company's American office is based in Oklahoma but is headquartered in the Tokyo, Japan area. Lance has primarily provided marine forecasts for the company, but has branched into aviation, energy, and media forecasting at different points. Starting in 2011, Lance joined a research and development group, which often partners closely with faculty and students at the University of Oklahoma, to produce new software and hardware to increase WNI's capabilities. Lance is now a satellite data processing expert, having worked on software for geostationary and low-Earth orbit satellites all around the world. Lance is happy to continue to help the AMS in its mission by chairing the Board on Best Practices.
