Financial Support for Students and Faculty

Applications for Financial Support for the 2024 Summer Policy Colloquium will open on December 1, 2023.

We anticipate that a limited number of graduate students will be awarded full financial support based on a national competition. This funding has historically come from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Faculty from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) may also apply for this funding. Those interested in applying for funding must submit an application by April 1, 2024

Application Requirements for Funding

Students and faculty members competing for support must submit (1) a letter of intent, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) two letters of reference, and (4) contact information. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in a U.S. institution or university and members of the American Meteorological Society. Student membership is sufficient for this requirement. Applicants for funding may also be in the process of applying for AMS membership at the time they submit their Colloquium applications.

If you are applying for funding, you do not need to complete the online registration.

  1. All applicants must submit the following contact information:
    1. Full name
    2. Current affiliation
    3. Mailing address
    4. Phone number
    5. Email address

  2. The letter of intent (no more than one page) should summarize:
  • Why participation is desired
  • The candidate’s qualifications (a mix of both scientific training and policy experience and interest)
  1. The curriculum vitae should be no more than two pages of personal and professional data.

  2. Applicants must request letters of reference from two people who can address professional competence and other qualities that demonstrate the applicant’s potential and aptitude for policy, as well as scientific matters. Recommendation requests must be sent by the applicant before submitting their application; however, recommendations may be uploaded after the application deadline.

The applicant is responsible for contacting the references and providing them with the reference letter guidance listed below. Letters of reference are considered confidential. Letters must include:
