AMS Meeting Opportunities for Students

AMS Meeting Opportunities for Students

If you’re a student interested in and or currently studying the field of weather, water, and climate, attending an AMS meeting is an essential and important step in your career path.

  • Expand your knowledge.
  • Improve your research opportunities.
  • Share your own ideas.
  • Connect with experts.
  • Grow personally and professionally.

AMS wants to help you attend our meetings – we offer several support opportunities to make this possible:

Student Travel Grants

Travel grants are available for non-presenting senior undergraduate and graduate students to attend AMS meetings held in the U.S. or Canada. AMS wants to encourage interactions between students and other conference attendees. To this end, travel grants will be awarded to students who are not presenting a paper at the conference. Presenting at the AMS Annual Meeting Student Conference does not fall under this rule. View deadlines and application.

Student Awards

Many conferences offer award certificates and cash prizes for the best student oral and poster presentations at the conference. Browse the upcoming meetings page to see which meetings offer opportunities to win awards.

Annual Meeting Student Assistant Program

The Student Assistant Program is open to undergraduate students, who are active AMS student members. The program provides partial travel support to students willing to assist AMS staff in administering the annual meeting. Student assistants help with various tasks, including meeting registration, book/retail exhibit, committee meetings, and audio visual requirements. When students are not working, they have the opportunity to attend sessions and visit the exhibit area. Visit the Information For Students  page in mid-August through late September for deadline and application information.

Student Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities are available for students during most AMS meetings. Being a student assistant is fun and educationally rewarding, but it is also a demanding job! Browse the upcoming meetings page to see which meetings are looking for student volunteers.
