2019 Chapter of the Year: Asheville, North Carolina
2019 Student Chapter of the Year: Ohio University
AMS recognizes the hard work and activities of local chapters through the Local Chapter of the Year and Poster Competition awards that are given out at the AMS Annual Meeting.
Local Chapter of the Year Award
The Local Chapter of the Year Award is the most prestigious recognition that National AMS can offer to a local chapter. Awards are given to one regular and one student chapter that have demonstrated particular excellence and success over the past year. Other highly successful chapters that are not awarded Chapter of the Year may be awarded Honor Roll recognition for that year. These awards are all given out by the AMS President at the Local Chapter Breakfast at the AMS Annual Meeting.
In order to win the Local Chapter of the Year Award, chapters must complete a nomination form detailing their successes in outreach, communication, and connection to National AMS. The awards are based on chapter activities conducted during a 12-month period from 1 May through 30 April of the year the nomination is submitted. The nominations are reviewed and judged by the Local Chapter Affairs Committee.
May 1st Nominations
The complete nomination package must be uploaded to the AMS awards system by 1 May. Award winners are notified in July and are acknowledged at the Local Chapter Breakfast at the AMS Annual Meeting.
For more information, look at the Sample Local Chapter of the Year Award Application put together by the Local Chapter Affairs Committee and Guidance from the Local Chapter Affairs Committee on the Chapter of the Year Award Competition Please note that no chapter can win Chapter of the Year more than twice in a row, but can still be considered for a position on the Honor Roll.
Previous Award Winners
Each year at the AMS Annual Meeting, local chapters are encouraged to display posters highlighting chapter activities, accomplishments, and events. Posters are judged by the Local Chapter Affairs Committee and first, second, and third place ribbons are awarded to the best regular chapter and student chapter posters. Ribbons are presented at the Local Chapter Officers' Breakfast at the AMS Annual Meeting. The call for poster submissions will be posted on this page and sent to the officers of all active chapters several months before the Annual Meeting. Posters must be submitted digitally so the Local Chapter Affairs Committee can do preliminary rounds of judging.

- Chapter Poster Judging Process
- Poster Competition Rules - It was decided by the Local Chapter Affairs Committee that a chapter can only win 1st place in the poster competition two years in a row. After winning 1st place two years in a row, the chapter will only be considered for 2nd or 3rd place during the next poster competition. After that, the chapter will then be eligible again for 1st place. This is similar to the Chapter of the Year rules, where no chapter can win 1st place more than two years in a row, but can be considered for Honor Roll status. We encourage all chapters to have a poster at the Annual Meeting. It is a great way to show off your chapter and to tell people what your chapter is doing for your community, your members, and the AMS.
