: The meeting will be in Brunswick (Medina County) at the Brunswick Library off Route 303. Exit I-71 at Route 303 west. After a couple of minutes, turn right at the traffic light onto Center Street. The library is the first building on the left. We are in the "B" half of the Sycamore Room, which is the large meeting room immediately on the right as you enter the library.
Spring Meeting

Location: Highland Branch Library, 4160 Ridge Road, Medina, OH 44256

: The meeting will be at the Highland Branch of the Medina County Library System. The library is on Ridge Road just south of Hinckley. It is just south of I-271 and just north of Route 18. From I-271, at exit 3, head south on Route 94 (Ridge Road). From I-71, exit at Route 18 and head east, away from Medina, then turn north (left) on Ridge Road (Route 94).
The library is on west side of Ridge Road and shares the driveway of the Highland High School. Use the south entrance. Once you turn into the high school driveway, the library is on the left. There is only one meeting room, called the Sharon Community Room. See "www.mcdl.info".

  • Part Two : F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron, OH 44313. The Nature Realm is only a quarter-mile drive from the Sand Run Ranger/Resource Management Building.

General: We have a unique opportunity to tour the Ranger/Resource Management Building in Summit County's Sand Run Metro Park. This facility won the title of Ohio's Greenest Building in February 2009 by receiving 55 out of a possible 69 points on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) scale. This "Platinum" level facility achieved this status by incorporating a variety of environmentally friendly features such as geothermal heating, solar panels and management of storm water.

After our tour of Ohio's Greenest Building, we will caravan a short distance (1/4 mile) to the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm. Jane Goodman of the Cuyahoga River Remedial Action Plan will deliver a presentation on current projects to improve the water quality of the Cuyahoga River and its tributaries and why green practices are important to this effort.

Note: The tour and the presentation will take place outside and will involve walking. Please were appropriate footwear and dress accordingly.

Lunch: After our tour, you are welcome to join the group for lunch at the Applebee's restaurant in Fairlawn. The address is 3938 Medina Road, Fairlawn, OH. It is located between the Olive Garden and Montrose Ford. A link to a MapQuest map can be found here.

Fall Meeting

: Climate Change and Tornado Climatology

Speaker: Cameron C. Lee, Master's Student, Kent State University

: Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 10:30 am.

General: Mr. Lee's master's thesis is titled "The Relationship of Large Scale Atmospheric Circulation to Tornadoes and the Impacts of Climate Change". This thesis is focused on creating a synoptic climatology of US tornado days and then utilizing those methods in conjunction with global circulation model (GCM) output in order to project the impacts of climate change on future tornado frequency and seasonality.

Directions: McGilvery Hall is at the corner of South Lincoln and East Summit Streets. Once on East Summit, turn left at the first light and park in the parking lot on your right. A parking lot is located at the rear of the DuBoise Bookstore (on East Summit Street) and is usually free on the weekend. McGilvery Hall is across the street from the bookstore.
