A limited number of graduate students will be awarded full financial support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), based on a national competition. Faculty from HBCUs and MSIs may also apply for NSF funding. Those interested in applying for NSF funding must submit an application by March 31, 2017.
Application Requirements for NSF Funding
Students and faculty members competing for support must submit (1) a letter of intent, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) two letters of reference, and (4) contact information. To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled in a U.S. institution or university and members of the American Meteorological Society. Student membership is sufficient for this requirement. Applicants for NSF funding may also be in the process of applying for AMS membership at the time they submit their Colloquium applications.
All student and faculty application materials are due March 31, 2017. If you are applying for NSF funding, you do not need to complete the online registration.

The letter of intent (no more than one page) should summarize:
Why participation is desired
The candidate’s qualifications (a mix of both scientific training and policy experience and interest)
The curriculum vitae should be no more than two pages of personal and professional data.
Applicants must request letters of reference from two people who can address professional competence and other qualities that demonstrate the applicant’s potential and aptitude for policy, as well as scientific matters. The applicant is responsible for contacting the references and providing them with the reference letter guidance listed below. Letters of reference are considered confidential. Reference’s relationship to applicant and ability to evaluate his/her qualifications
Scientific and technical accomplishments and competency of the applicant and the relative standing of the applicant among his/her peers
Applicant’s ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, and potential to contribute to the policy arena in future years
