DEADLINE is 23 FEBRUARY.

Student Assistant

Volunteer students are needed for registration and audio/visual support during the conference. Student volunteers are required to be in attendance the entire conference, and be available to work 1/2 each day from Sunday through Friday. The students will work either the first or second shift (i.e., morning or afternoon). For volunteering, the student will get their registration fee waived and $25.00 per day for food allowance. This program is a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of students will be needed for the conference. Those students interested please contact Meghan Summers at msummers@ametsoc.org.

Award Opportunities

Upon submission of abstracts, student authors may elect to enter the competition for student awards. Oral presenters may compete for the Max Eaton award and the Outstanding Student Oral Presentation awards. Student poster presenters may compete for the Outstanding Student Poster awards. Students who compete for the Max Eaton award or the Outstanding Student Oral Presentation awards are required to submit extended abstracts. The extended abstracts, with the limit of 1,000 words, will be used to pre-screen submissions. Instructions for formatting extended abstracts will be posted on the AMS website.

Authors of accepted student presentations will be notified via e-mail by late November 2017. The student deadline for submission of extended abstracts for inclusion in the competitions is 8 January 2018 15 January 2018. The growth of the conference necessitates that not all submissions for the oral competition will get oral slots. Submissions intended for the oral competition not granted an oral slot will automatically be entered in the poster competition.

The conference program committee is also offering three student travel awards ($300 each) to help supplement travel expenses. To be eligible for a travel award, students must be current AMS student members and have submitted an abstract for presentation at the meeting. To apply, please send your CV, the submitted abstract, and a brief (1/2 page) justification to Dr. Rosimar Rios-Berrios (rberrios@ucar.edu) by the abstract deadline of 27 October 2017.
