In this half-day short course, we will explore data, tools, and concepts with the goal of creating meteorologic visualization notebooks in Python from beginning to end. We can combine the concept of Exploratory Data Analysis with Python tools like xarray and MetPy to equip learners with the skills needed to create these visualization notebooks from scratch in a variety of research applications.

Participants will leave with an improved roadmap of steps for creating analysis and visualization notebooks for their own scientific problems, with their own data. These skills will help learners identify good starting points and next steps throughout their analysis and visualization workflows in Python.

Course Description:

Course participants will:

• Identify relevant dataset for completing a scientific workflow and validate its usability
• Access the data in Python and apply Exploratory Data Analysis techniques with tools such as Pandas and xarray
• Perform necessary manipulation of data with MetPy
• Visualize manipulated data on a map using Cartopy and Matplotlib.
