If you would like to volunteer your time to Society initiatives and programs, please review the following information.
Boards and Committees
Some committees and boards have specific requirements of those who serve on them (for example, one must be a CCM to serve on the Board of Certified Consulting Meteorologists). If you want to learn more about a service on a particular committee or board, you can either contact the chair (using the listing of committee and board members and their contact information) or the commissioner of the commission in which that committee or board resides. The commissions with boards and committees are listed below, with links to the contact information of the commission:
- Commission on Education and Human Resources
- Commission on Professional Affairs
- Commission on the Weather, Water, and Climate Enterprise
- Planning Commission
- Publications Commission (learn how to Get Involved with AMS Journals)
- Scientific and Technological Activities Commission
Additional committees can be found under:
If you are not sure what board or committee you would be best suited for but would still like to volunteer to serve, please fill out and submit the Web form:
This information will be provided to the various commissioners as they begin making appointments for the committees and boards of their commission. Please note that most appointments are made in the fall for terms that begin in January, so you may not hear anything for some time after submitting this form. Also note that great effort is put into maintaining balance on committees and boards in terms of sector, discipline, etc., so you may not be used on a specific committee or board immediately.
If you would like to be considered for service on the drafting committee, please send your name and contact information with a brief description of your background to the AMS Council at the following e-mail address: email@example.com.
The AMS Council is currently soliciting volunteers to serve on the drafting committee for updating or creating the following statements:
