Student Opportunities

If you’re a student interested in and or currently studying the field of weather, water, and climate, attending an AMS meeting is an essential and important step in your career path.

  • Expand your knowledge.
  • Improve your research opportunities.
  • Share your own ideas.
  • Connect with experts.
  • Grow personally and professionally.

AMS wants to help you attend our meetings – we offer several support opportunities to make this possible.

Student Assistants

Volunteer students are needed for registration and audio/visual support throughout the conference. Volunteers are required to be in attendance the entire conference, and must be available to work at least a full day from Tuesday through Thursday. In exchange for volunteering, students receive one free conference registration, plus $40.00 per day worked for food allowance. This program is offered on a first come, first served basis. A limited number of students will be needed for the conference. Interested? Please contact Lisa Harris ([email protected]) for details*.

Travel Grants

AMS will be awarding travel grants to non-presenting students to attend AMS meetings. Presenters are not eligible to apply. The grant program is available to AMS student members and member graduate students (those who are in their last undergraduate year or who are current graduate students). Member status will be confirmed.

AMS will be awarding two (2) travel grants for the 2026 Joint AMS Washington Forum and Summer Community Meeting.  Please visit the Student Travel Grant Page for more information and to apply.
