Katie Allen is a 2014 Sea Grant Knauss Marine Policy Fellow with the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs of the Committee on Natural Resources of the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC. She is completing a PhD degree in Integrative Biology at the University of South Carolina where her dissertation research utilizes molecular data to detect fisheries induced changes in effective population size and evaluate the efficacy of current management strategies for a commercially harvested finfish species. Her professional interests focus on the use of scientific data to better inform national ocean policy as it relates to fisheries and other natural resource management.
