The AMS Short course on Climate Change Science
As station scientists, broadcast meteorologists are among the general public’s
principal and most trusted sources of science information concerning life in their
communities. With continuing confusion among much of the public over the
differences between weather and climate, meteorologists and weathercasters need
responsible and authoritative sources of timely information concerning climate
change, a high-visibility issue across the country given increasing concerns about
energy and economic issues and given growing likelihood of national and international
initiatives. Additional Information: Short Course on Climate Change Science (PDF)

FIELD TRIP
There will be an all-day field trip to two locations on Tuesday, 23 June. The ticket price is included in your full-week package purchase. Extra tickets may be purchased onsite for $40. The buses will leave the Doubletree at 8:15am on Tuesday, transportation to lunch will be at 11:30am for lunch from 12pm-1:00pm. The second tour will leave the lunch location at 1:15pm and leave the tour location at 3:15pm for a 4:00pm arrival back at the Doubletree.

WEDNESDAY LUNCHEON SPEAKER
There will be a banquet luncheon on Wednesday from 12:00pm–1:45pm. This luncheon is included in your full week registration package and additional tickets may be purchased for $50 at the registration desk onsite.
Luncheon Speaker
Dr. John Delaney
Professor of Oceanography
The University of Washington

Professor John Delaney will be our keynote luncheon speaker. An oceanographer, he has served as chief scientist on more than 45 oceanographic research cruises. His specialty has been deep-sea volcanic activity of the Juan de Fuca Ridge in the Northeast Pacific Ocean. Dr. Delaney led a joint expedition with the American Museum of Natural History to successfully recover four volcanic structures now on display in the Museum's Hall of the Planet Earth, which was chronicled in a NOVA/ PBS documentary "Volcanoes of the Deep". In 2005 he co-led the VISIONS '05 expedition, which broadcast the first live, high definition video from the deep seafloor. Dr. Delaney has become a passionate spokesman for the importance of understanding the ocean's influence both on our atmosphere and on planet's ability to sustain life. He is about to embark on a new deep sea research venture equivalent in scope and reach to the lunar landings, one that promises to revolutionize not only ocean science, but also the way research is conducted and science is taught.
