Committee on Mesoscale Processes

Welcome to the webpage of the AMS Committee on Mesoscale Processes. The primary activity of this committee is to organize the Conference on Mesoscale Processes, which takes place in odd years.

The 20th Conference on Mesoscale Processes, joint with Numerical Weather Prediction and Weather and Forecasting, will be July 17-21, 2023, in Madison, WI. More information can be found on the conference website or by contacting the Program Chairs Dr. Rosimar Rios-Berrios and Dr. Yunji Zhang.

Topics covered at this meeting typically include (but are not limited to):

  • Organized moist convection
  • Gravity waves and turbulence
  • Orographic flows and rainfall
  • Tropical and extratropical cyclones
  • The diurnal cycle
  • Microphysics
  • Aerosol effects
  • Data assimilation and predictability
  • Theoretical and idealized modeling
