Student Resources & Awards

The Committee on the Coastal Environment is committed to providing student opporuntities to encourage inovlvement in all of our activities. New opportunities will be posted on this page; however, we suggest emailing the CE Chair or Student Members (can be found here) if you have specific questions or ideas.

Opportunities Include: 

  • Serving as a student member on the Committee on the Coastal Environment.
  • Join the CE Community Mailing List. More information here
  • Travel Grants: The Committee will support part of the travel expenses (up to $400) of three students to attend the 16th Symposium on the Coastal Environment at the AMS Annual Meeting in Austin, TX, 8-10 January 2018. This grant can be applied to registration fees, transportation costs, food and lodging. To apply, students should prepare a short written statement (no more than one page) declaring their financial need and circumstance, relevance of their research to the Symposium, how they will benefit from attending the Symposium, and a copy of their abstract for the meeting. The deadline for application for travel support is 15 October 2017. Travel allowance winners will be notified on 1 November 2017.
  • Student Presentation Awards: 16th Symposium on the Coastal Environment, to be held 8-10 January 2018 in Austin, TX, will include a Best Student Oral Presentation award. The first place prize money is $200 and the second place is $100. These awards will recognize outstanding student contributions based on the technical difficulty level, the impact of the study, and the presentation style. We encourage all students in the field of coastal oceanography and meteorology to participate.
