Commitment to Care Statement

35th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology
09-13 May 2022
New Orleans, LA
Updated: 11 May 2022

As AMS plans for the 35th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology, we continue to monitor and keep track of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. We are prioritizing the safety of presenters, attendees, program chairs, staff, and any volunteers who plan to attend in-person.

We are closely monitoring news and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and local health agencies regarding travel and events.

We recommend that you check back here on any recommendations and guidance for our in-person event.

Health and Safety Policy

All attendees (presenters, program chairs, session chairs, exhibit booth staff, volunteers, attendees, guests, press, AMS staff) will be required to agree to the AMS Meeting Health and Safety Policy and Waiver, before completing their registration. Any attendee who is not able to adhere to the in-person guidelines set forth in that Policy and Waiver, or in this Commitment to Care Statement, should plan to participate in the robust virtual options we are offering during this fully hybrid meeting.

In-person attendees must provide proof of vaccination in the CLEAR app before picking up their registration materials. Remember to download the CLEAR app on your mobile device and upload your vaccination information. Instructions for the app are listed below.

  • If you do not currently have the Clear app on a smart device, please click on the link below. You will receive a text with a direct link to the App

  • Tap “Enroll or verify in CLEAR” to create your CLEAR member account.

    • New to CLEAR? Once you have downloaded the App. click on “Your Pass” to begin. When prompted, enter your email address, phone number, and have your government issued photo ID ready to complete enrollment.

Please note: the CDC considers individuals to be fully vaccinated two weeks following a second dose of mRNA vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
For international attendees, this guidance applies to COVID-19 vaccines authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization (i.e., AstraZeneca/Oxford, Covishield, Sinopharm, and Sinovac) - 2 weeks after final dose. The full list of vaccines with final WHO EUL/PQ evaluation status is available here.

While the CDC does not currently require individuals to receive booster shots to be fully vaccinated, we highly recommend that you receive one before traveling if you are eligible. For more information on booster eligibility, please see here.

Finally, we advise everyone to take proper precautions when traveling to and from the conference. Please wear a mask while on an airplane or train and while in a rideshare vehicle. Wash your hands frequently, and maintain distancing when possible.

At this time the AMS will be mandating masks for this meeting. Should this change we will post updates here.

  • Hand Sanitizer: There are multiple hand sanitizing stations located throughout the AMS Meeting space.
  • Our Hotel: Marriott’s Commitment to Clean can be found here.

Poster Sessions

We have increased the aisles of posters to allow for more social distancing. We have asked poster presenters to make their posters no larger than 4'x6' to allow more space.

Food and Beverage

During food functions or whenever you are eating or drinking, we ask that you remain stationary and put your mask back on when you are finished.

Symptoms and Health Survey

In-person attendees who feel ill or experience any symptoms of COVID-19 before or during the meeting should not enter the AMS Meeting until the symptoms have resolved.
