Park City Mountain Village Excursion

Join the 20th Conference on Mountain Meteorology on Wednesday, 29th June at 1:20 PM for an afternoon excursion at Park City Mountain Village Scenic Lift Rides!

 


Take a scenic lift ride to view breathtaking mountainous landscapes, learn about Park City’s mining history and the SNOTEL Meteorological site, and catch up with fellow conference attendees on one of our guided hikes. Please note that transportation is not provided, the group will be utilizing local bus service. 

 

Tickets can be purchased online during conference registration.

Tentative Excursion Itinerary:

 

1:20 PM - 1:30 PM MT

Meet outside the Park City Sheraton hotel to walk to the bus stop.

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM MT

Take the bus together to the bottom of Crescent chair lift of Park City Mountain

2:30 - 3:15 PM MT

After an introduction to the local mining history by Mountain Met Committee Member Matthew Jeglum, we will take the chair lift up the mountain.

3:15 PM - 4:00 PM MT

From the top of the chair lift we will take an easy hike to the SNOTEL site (around 1 mile and 500 vertical feet);followed by a tour of the site and more information on the mining history.

4:00 PM - 6:00 PM MT

After that, we will split up in sub-groups:

·  Group 1: hikes back to the chair lift and takes it down

·  Group 2: hikes directly back to the base of the mountain from the SNOTEL site (around 4.5 miles) 

·   Group 3: hikes to Shadow Lake and then back to the base (around 6 miles)

Excursion Tickets include an all day pass with multiple rides on the Scenic Lift Rides. A waiver must be completed before the excursion.
