Student Opportunities

Student Assistant

Volunteer students are needed for registration and audio/visual support during the conference. Student volunteers are required to be in attendance the entire conference, and be available to work at least a full day from Tuesday-Thursday. For volunteering, the student will get their registration fee waived and $40.00 per day for food allowance. This program is a first come, first served basis. A limited number of students will be needed for the conference. Those students interested should please contact Marissa Welch for details.

Keynote Speaker:  Janae Elkins, Emergency Response Meteorologist

National Weather Service (NWS) Operations Center, NOAA/NWS Headquarters

Janae Elkins holds a BS in Meteorology from Jackson State University, beginning her federal career at NWS in 2018, as a meteorologist/forecaster at the weather forecast office (WFO) in Jackson, MS. After five years with WFO Jackson, Janae moved to the DC Metro area to serve as a liaison between NWS Regional Operation Centers, National Centers, and other internal and external core partners including VIP members to NWS Senior Leadership. Her primary duties include coordinating and collaborating (collecting data) with the National Centers and Regional Operations Centers, particularly during significant weather situations, and provides briefings to NWS senior leaders to keep them abreast of high impact and/or significant severe weather issues.
