Thank you for your patience and understanding while AMS leadership closely monitors the situation related to the respiratory disease known as “the coronavirus disease 2019” or “COVID-19” and its effects on our meetings and events. We had been hopeful that we could hold the 13th Fire and Forest Meteorology Symposium in May. However, following Sunday’s CDC recommendation against holding gatherings larger than 10 people in the US for the next eight weeks, it is clear that we must change our plans. Thus, after much deliberation, we have made the decision to reschedule the 13th Fire and Forest Meteorology Symposium to 11-13 May 2021. The location and technical program structure will remain the same.
We urge those who were planning to fly to Palm Springs for the conference to reach out to their airlines as soon as possible. Many, if not all, airlines are waiving change and cancel fees for existing reservations. For those that booked hotel rooms within the AMS block at the Riviera Palm Springs, your reservations have been automatically cancelled. Those who booked outside of the AMS block will need to contact Marriott to cancel. A new hotel reservation link will be made available in the fall. Existing conference registrations for the conference will be honored over the new 2021 dates. If you cannot attend in these new dates, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a full refund.
Oral and poster presentations will remain scheduled at the same day of the week and time for 2021 as they were scheduled for 2020. We are currently updating the program with these details and will send updated acceptance emails early next week. Any presentation that was withdrawn due to the COVID-19 situation and accompanying travel bans will be reinstated by the end of this week and will need to be withdrawn again if the presenter cannot present at the new date/time. AMS will refund abstract fees for anyone that cannot present during the 2021 dates.
Thank you to everyone who helped us formulate an alternative plan where we can still hold the 13th Fire and Forest Meteorology Symposium and we look forward to seeing many of you next May.
