Profile from BAMS

Photo of Tim Whitcomb

“When I was in high school, I got a chance to do a summer internship at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Portland, Oregon. At the time, I wasn't particularly interested in meteorology, but my other choice of internship was in the Transportation Department in the City of Longview, which was much too close to my dad's civil engineering subject matter for my taste. That summer cemented meteorology as a career path for me. I found that it was the perfect amalgamation of mathematics, science, and computing all coming together to address real-world issues."
