Spotlight: Giving Campaign

The AMS 100th Anniversary Campaign is here and needs your support.

The vision for AMS’s second century is ambitious, creative, and crucial to our global community. With your support, AMS will be able to launch new programs that celebrate our first 100 years and build an AMS for the new century.

As many of you know, AMS has created the framework for five new networks that will

  • provide the tools for advancing members’ careers and career resources;
  • connect volunteers with opportunities to offer their expertise to help those in need;
  • create social networks that enhance AMS’s community impact by efficiently connecting AMS chapters, universities, broadcasters, companies, and government offices;
  • facilitate collaboration across the many scientific and professional organizations that share AMS’s interests; and
  • provide a virtual panoply of historical information and resources accessible to researchers and all AMS members.

We need your help to build the infrastructure that will unleash the power of networking in all five areas so that we can serve the needs of AMS members as we enter our second century.

As a special effort for the Centennial, many AMS members have already committed to become part of the , with a commitment of $2019 each year for five years. The money given through Leadership Circle commitments will help build the new and enhanced networks for AMS.

AMS Glossary Word of the Month

Radar echoes caused by flocks of roosting birds that take to the air as a group and fly away in different directions.

Bird bursts typically occur near sunrise and have ring-shaped reflectivity signatures with weak echoes in the center and maximum reflectivity in circles that expand with time around the roosting site.
