#ShutDownSTEM

Nationally, campaigns to #ShutDownSTEM and #ShutDownAcademia have called for a Strike for Black Lives on June 10th: "No research, no meetings, no classes, no business as usual." We encourage all members of the community not actively engaged in providing critical, time-sensitive information to join in a day of self-reflection, educate yourself and others on the issues, listen to your Black colleagues, and take actions to be anti-racist and promote equity and justice. AMS staff will be doing the same.

AMS Council, the Board of Women and Minorities, and the Culture and Inclusion Cabinet continue to develop specific actions we can take in the coming days, weeks, and months to challenge and change systems of inequity that perpetuate racism and bias within our community. In the meantime, AMS leadership is eager to engage in actions such as A Call to Action for an Anti-Racist Science Community from Geoscientists of Color: Listen, Act, Lead (#NoTimeForSilence). This calls for individual and organizational action to address systemic racism and bias within research, academia, and federal agencies. In addition to the resources listed below, we ask you as AMS members to carefully read and consider this call to action.
