Aaron Piña

Aaron Piña is a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at NASA Headquarters. He works as a Deputy Program Scientist in the Science Mission Directorate, Earth Science Division to support the Weather and Atmospheric Dynamics Focus Area in weather research, data, and technology. Aaron’s portfolio includes NASA weather strategy implementation, program management, interagency/international collaborations, and field campaign coordination and planning.

 

Prior to joining NASA Headquarters, Aaron worked as a scientist for an atmospheric science and software development start-up company in Louisville, Colorado called Aeris, LLC. There, he focused on atmospheric transport and dispersion applications that are of interest to the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy.

 

Aaron’s professional interests include connecting science with decision-makers, numerical modeling, weather over complex terrain, atmospheric transport and dispersion, and diversity and inclusion in STEM.

 

Aaron earned his B.S. degree in Meteorology from Texas A&M University, his M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University, and his Ph.D. in Ecology from Colorado State University. He currently serves as the Chair of the AMS Board on Women and Minorities.
