Christy Veeder

Christy Veeder was the 2016-2017 AMS/AAAS Congressional Science Policy Fellow, perfoming her fellowship in the office of Senator Jeff Merkley. She earned her bachelor's degree in English literature from Cornell University, and her PhD in atmospheric science and climatology from Columbia University. Christy's graduate research examined how global climate models can be used to study the impacts of solar irradiance changes on climate. After receiving her doctorate, she spent several years at private-sector engineering firms, working at the interface between the corporate world and governmentagencies. Through her outreach and marketing responsibilities, Christy expanded the skills she had developed as a graduate student in making complex ideas relevant and compelling to diverse audiences. Christy’s policy interests focus on energy and climate, and the complex ways in which these issues affect the labor community. When not contemplating policy puzzles, Christy serves as a hospice volunteer and a board member for The Equus Projects, a contemporary dance company; she also enjoys reading, cooking, and eating.
