Short Course Proposals

The deadline to submit a short course proposal for the upcoming AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans is June 1st.

AMS welcomes short course proposals for hybrid or in-person courses at an AMS meeting on a variety of subjects that would be of interest to the weather, water, and climate community. Prior course topics include machine learning, Python, consulting meteorology, forensic meteorology, catastrophe modeling, artificial intelligence applications, to name a few. Python is in demand so don't hesitate to submit a proposal if you are interested in organizing a course on this topic.
A recent survey of short course attendees showed additional interest in the following topics:

  • Forecast Modelling
  • NWP Modelling, especially related to data assimilation and convection schemes
  • Physics-informed AI
  • Organizing and Working with Large Datasets: the best ways to computationally store them and speed up the compute process
  • Radar Reading
  • Visualization of Radar
  • Data Developer Session: How to contribute and understand standards, etc.
  • Climate Attribution: data fusion between satellite and station data

Short course attendees range from undergraduate students to seasoned professionals so organizers have the option to choose topics for a specific audience. Short course proposals are reviewed by the AMS Board on Continuing Professional Development (BCPD) and are submitted online.
