Hello and welcome to the official page of the Ohio University Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, known as OUCAMS! Our local chapter became associated with the American Meteorological Society in 2009, after already being established as the OU Meteorology Club four years prior. The club has received the honor of AMS Student Chapter of the Year during the 2014-2015 school year, Chapter Honor Roll for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school year, and AMS Student Chapter of the Year again during the 2018-2019 school year! As a student-led organization at Ohio University, OUCAMS is open to all majors and aims to build a group of students who have an interest or passion for weather. The club participates in community outreach, professional development, academic success, and social events. For community outreach, the club is involved in the Adopt-A-Highway program, volunteering at the Southeast Ohio Foodbank, boxing care packages for soldiers overseas, and local school outreach events. For professional development, the club has developed a peer mentor/mentee program, where an underclassman is paired with an upperclassman to help aid the transition to the university and share knowledge/advice the mentor has learned during their years as a meteorology major. Additionally, every spring, we host a Meteorology Symposium, which is the largest professional development event we host. We bring in 8 speakers from all different backgrounds, from public, private, to government sectors. This event is open and free to the public, and allows students to get a better understanding of the various career paths in meteorology as well as to network with professionals. In addition, we have about 10-20 students travel to the annual AMS conference, which also serves as a great way to network, explore graduate programs, and for students to present their research. Besides all the outreach and professional development events we have each year, OUCAMS hosts many social events. Intramural sports, game nights, the annual Alumni Spaghetti Dinner, and our Spring Cabin trip are just a few examples! Overall, the faculty and students involved in Ohio University’s meteorology program will help aid in the success of your college career and make it enjoyable! I have met friends in OUCAMS who I know I will have forever, and I will continue to cherish my time with this club heading into my senior year. Feel free to follow OUCAMS on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for updates on events and more information! Also feel free to email me at mz950318@ohio.edu. All the Best!
