Call For Papers

The 37th Conference on Radar Meteorology, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, will be held at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Norman, Oklahoma, 14–18 September 2015. Information on the technical program, registration, hotel, and other general information will be available on the AMS Web site http://www.ametsoc.org/MEET/meetinfo.html. While the technical program is designed around eight themes, contributions are solicited on all aspects of radar meteorology. The eight technical program themes and topics include: (1) New and Emerging Radar Technology: advances in radar hardware, advances in signal/array processing, innovative applications of radar, integrating new technologies in field campaigns, polarimetric phased array radar, solid-state and pulse compression radar, heterogeneous adaptive radar networks, innovation in education and training; (2) Operational Radar Networks and Products: status and modernization of radar networks, calibration, data quality control, data exchange and formats, open source software for radar products and visualization, impacts of operational radar on weather forecasting, and radar data climatologies; (3) Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE) and Hydrological Applications: polarimetric radar, progress in QPE and error structure analysis, multi-frequency and multi-sensor (radar/ lidar / gauge /microwave link) approach; (4) Microphysical Studies: hydrometeor classification, microphysical retrievals using dual-polarization and multi-frequency radars, profiling & scanning radar studies; (5) Mesoscale and Severe Weather: radar-based studies of severe convection, tornadoes, tropical cyclones, winter storms, lightning, etc., dual-Doppler & multi-radar approaches; (6) Use of Radar Data for Nowcasting and NWP Models: heuristic nowcasting, assimilation of radar data into convective scale models, assimilation of polarimetric measurements, use of radar data for convective scale model validation and microphysics improvement, combined use of radar and satellite data in NWP models, automated data quality & analysis tools for NWP models, convective-scale ensemble prediction involving radar, optimal scanning strategies, warn-on-forecast; (7) Airborne and Spaceborne Radars: airborne radar systems (UAS and manned aircraft), ground validation field campaigns (LPVEx, MC3E, GCPEx, IFloods, IPHEx, Wallops, etc), spaceborne satellite missions (CloudSat, TRMM, GPM, EarthCare), future satellite missions; (8) Millimeter Wavelength Radars: ARM – EU supersites, multi-wavelength systems, radar Doppler spectra, polarimetric and synergistic observations (radar / lidar / radiometer).
Please submit your abstract electronically via the AMS Web page https://ams.confex.com/ams/submitted by Friday, 1 May 2015 will be considered for oral and poster contributions. The abstract submission fee will be $95, payable by credit card or purchase order and is charged at the time of submission. Refunds will be given only if your abstract is not accepted. This abstract fee covers the costs of submitting your pre-conference abstract, extended abstract and an on-site audio recording of your oral presentation (oral presenters) or PDF placement of your poster (poster presenters) for the conference on-line archive available to all to search and view. Authors of accepted presentations will be notified via e-mail in mid June 2015. The authors of all accepted presentations are solicited to submit an extended abstract that will be available on-line via the AMS web page and must be received by Sunday, 18 October 2015 (firm).
The best student oral presentation and poster presentation will be awarded the Spiros G. Geotis Prize. Students need to indicate their intent to participate in this competition when they submit their abstract.
Exhibitors are solicited to participate in the conference by purchasing AMS exhibit booth space and presenting their latest technologies and advancements. Exhibitors at this meeting will have the opportunity to submit an abstract (no charge) for a tentatively planned Vendor Session. Talks will run in 15-minute increments. Interested exhibitors should send their title, presenter contact information, and abstract text to Jenn Rosen at [email protected] by 1 May 2015.
For technical program questions please contact co-chairs Alexander Ryzhkov, University of Oklahoma and National Severe Storms Laboratory (405-325-6624, [email protected]) or Tian-You Yu, University of Oklahoma (405-325-3344, [email protected]). For exhibitor or other questions please contact AMS staff Jen Ives (617-226-3974, [email protected]) or Jenn Rosen, (617-226-3972,[email protected]). (12/14)
