AMS 2018 Summer Community Meeting: Expanding the Weather, Water, and Climate Enterprise’s Global Impact Through Enhanced Collaboration

The AMS Summer Community Meeting is a special time during the year when leaders from academia, industry, and government (i.e., the Enterprise) come together to discuss broader, strategic priorities, identify opportunities to collaborate, and share points of view on pressing topics.  A key focus is always on how new science and technology innovations can be leveraged by the Enterprise to continue enhancing forecasts for users globally as well as how to improve communication of forecasts in our rapidly changing world!

This year’s meeting is a special one, specifically setup to explore opportunities to accelerate growth of the Weather Enterprise and importantly how we can each contribute through enhanced collaboration!  The first day of meeting has been set aside for a workshop being run by the National Academies Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (BASC).  The BASC workshop will explore a study being developed by BASC to create a shared vision for the next generation U.S. weather enterprise.  Additionally, though a separate event, the NWS will hold their bi-annual Partner’s Meeting on August 9.  The Partners Meeting offers a chance to learn more about the current status and future plans for NWS products and services.

Mark your calendar for this important series of meetings in early August in Boulder – we hope to see you there!  For additional information, please contact Jonathan Porter, BEC Chair at [email protected].
