International Session

This day long WMO/NWS International Session is titled “Communication and the International Weather Enterprise: Improving Science Deliver in Support of Readiness, Response and Recovery”.  The session will explore communication strategies National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) can develop, implement, and internationally coordinate to improve environmental decision making in the face of growing vulnerability to extreme weather, water, and short-term climate events, both before and after they occur.  This topic of discussion comes at an all-important time given the recent deadly extreme events we have seen. The session will address two distinct focus areas with morning and afternoon panel sessions.  The morning panel will aim to highlight how advances in our field can improve readiness for extreme events in the international community.  The panel will explore how we can better work as an international community to develop and share best practices for relationship building and communication with key stakeholders, such as the emergency management community and other government agencies.  In addition, the panel will look at the potential offered by advances made in technology, communication, decision support services, and social science research.  The afternoon panel will focus on how to strengthen communication during the response and recovery phases of the event. Sponsors will receive an invitation to attend the workshop, in addition to annual meeting sponsor benefits.
