AMS Books has just released A Scientific Peak by Joseph P. Bassi. Once a Wild West city tucked between the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains, Boulder, Colorado is now home to some of the biggest names in science, including NCAR, NOAA, and NIST. A Scientific Peak is a fascinating history that introduces us to a wide variety of characters, such as Walter Orr Roberts, and the serendipitous brew of politics, passion, and sheer luck that, during the post-WWII and Cold War eras, transformed this “scientific Siberia” into one of America’s smartest cities.
Congratulations to our student award winners from the 37th Conference on Radar Meteorology!
We invite you to renew your AMS membership for 2016 to continue receiving all the great benefits that membership provides. Renew Your Membership for 2016 today!
AMS Publications is pleased to announce that journal articles are now being published as each individual article completes production, shortening the time to publication even further than the recent historic lows. This continuous publication (CP) workflow is now in place for the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology. Other AMS technical journals and Meteorological Monographs will transition to the CP workflow over the next few months. Look for the "Issue in Progress" link on the AMS Journals Online site!
The AMS Publications Commission and AMS Council have developed and approved new procedures for the AMS Meteorological Monographs Series. The review process will emulate that used for journal contributions, taking advantage of the AMS Editorial Manager site for faster review and production. New volumes in the series will be published online, open access, and using the continuous publication model. This timely publication will increase the exposure and impact of individual articles. We encourage the submission of proposals for development of new Meteorological Monographs.

The AMS Policy Program will be conducting a two-day workshop on 2–3 December in Washington, D.C., on technology transfer. “From Innovation to Societal Benefit: The Way There” will focus on the national importance of getting tech transfer right, across the whole of the national agenda, but especially when applying the geosciences to natural resources, hazards, and environmental protection. Register now. More information here or contact Bill Hooke or Thalia Patrinos with ideas or questions.
If you missed the 37th Conference on Radar Meteorology, recordings of the talks and supplementary info such as handouts, poster images, and extended abstracts are available online in the web program: you can view everything for free!
On Wednesday 28 October the AMS Policy Program was proud to join NOAA in hosting a Policy Roundtable Briefing focused on research to improve severe weather prediction, response and recovery.
