Special 98th Annual Meeting Updates

New Presidential Town Hall Meeting Added
The Devastating 2017 Hurricane Season: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Directions for the Weather Enterprise
Monday, January 8, 2018, 12:15–1:45p.m.

The American Meteorological Society and its members recognize and empathize with the intense heartache and pain suffered by thousands of displaced residents and survivors following hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The major impacts from the wind damage, storm surge, and precipitation, in addition to the disruption to the economy, will not be fully realized for years to come. AMS will host this special Presidential Town Hall Meeting at the 98th AMS Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas to look at these and other important issues. A preliminary list of topics to be addressed include an overview of the events, forecasts of the events, communication and response, the extent to which climate change may or may not have contributed, the social “cost” of the events, and the plans for recovery and resilience.
Abstract Deadline extended for Impacts Symposium
