The Award for an Exceptional Specific Prediction

Description

The Award for an Exceptional Specific Prediction is given to one or more individuals in recognition of an exceptional prediction of one or more significant events. This includes predictions originating or disseminated from across the weather enterprise. The Award may also be given to exceptional predictions of societal impacts from a specific weather event that directly lead to the protection of property and lives.

Nominations are considered by a committee of no fewer than five members of the Scientific and Technological Activities Commission's Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting which makes a recommendation for final approval by AMS Council.

Nomination Process

Thank you for your interest in submitting a nomination! AMS membership is not required to submit an award nomination. Nominations are due by 1 May. The nominator is responsible for uploading the entire nomination package.

The nominees for awards remain on the committee's active list for three years.  You will be allowed to update an unsuccessful nomination at the beginning of the next award cycle. 

Requirements

  • Award citation (25 word maximum)
  • Nomination letter (3 page maximum)
  • One (1) letter of support (2 page maximum), with up to three (3) letters allowed
