Through our surveys and interviews with you, we learned that the two most essential factors in a good textbook are scientific content and affordability. With that in mind, we are excited to make two announcements.

Open Access Textbooks

We have begun a comprehensive project to update all our textbooks and release them under an open-access license. Once completed, our textbooks will be free!

We have begun updating the Ocean Studies textbook in 2025 and plan to distribute faculty copies by March 2026 for the Fall 2026 semester. The Weather Studies and Our Changing Climate textbooks will follow soon after. As we prepare the textbooks, we will ensure the manuals continue to align with them. While the manuals will not be open source, they will still complement each textbook chapter with our classic data analysis, interactive activities, and real-world application.
