Serving the public's need to identify broadcast and consulting meteorologists who have achieved a high level of competency in communicating complex weather, water, and climate information. Since 1957, AMS certification programs have been an important part of the AMS community. Today these three widely respected programs continue to recognize thousands of meteorologists who have met the high standards of AMS certification.
The AMS Seal of Approval was launched in 1957 as a way to recognize on-air meteorologists for their sound delivery of weather information to the general public. (The AMS is no longer accepting applications for the Seal of Approval Program.)
