2nd Annual AMS Weather and Climate Enterprise Summer Community Meeting

26-30 June 2006 UCAR Center Green Boulder, Colorado

The 2nd Annual Summer Community Meeting will be held 26-30 June 2006 at UCAR Center Green in Boulder, Colorado

Discussion topics:

  • Community mesoscale model development
  • Feasibility of multi-partner, multifunctional mesoscale observing networks
  • National consensus and the American competitive initiative
  • Social, economic, and policy aspects of hazardous weather
  • User-centric forecast verification
  • Follow-up to issues discussed at the 1st Summer Community Meeting
  • Other important topics of interest to our community

Again this summer the AMS Commission on the Weather and Climate Enterprise, in
partnership with the Weather Coalition and the University Corporation for Atmospheric
Research, is holding a meeting in Boulder to discuss topics of importance to
the weather and climate enterprise, and to announce the first annual partnership topic
study (the feasibility of multi-partner, multifunctional mesoscale observing networks).

A small block of rooms has been reserved at two local hotels:

Residence Inn by Marriott Boulder Residence Inn by Marriott 3030 Center Green
Dr. Boulder, CO 80301. For reservations call 1-800-331-3131 or call the hotel directly

The Courtyard
Boulder Boulder, 4710 Pearl East Circle, Boulder, CO. For reservations call
(303) 440-4700.

Guest Room Rates:
$169 per night under the AMS room block. All reservations must be guaranteed with a
major credit card (AX, VISA, MC, DC, CB OR DISC), by first nights deposit on all
rooms in the block. Please make your reservations prior to 24 May 2006.

Additional Hotel Info

Due to a coincident softball tournament, hotel rooms in Boulder are going quickly for
the week of the meeting. Many popular hotels, including the Millennium, Best Western
Boulder Inn, Best Western Golden Buff, and Boulder Outlook recently told us they
were sold out for the week of our meeting. But you might want to check your favorite
hotel anyway as a cancellation may come in. A list of hotels in Boulder is at:

Lower room rates may be available at hotels in neighboring communities such as
Louisville, Lafayette, Westminster, and Longmont.

Registration

1)On-line Registration. This option is available to AMS Members and nonmembers
who are paying by credit card or purchase order. Please see the AMS homepage, Web
address http://www.ametsoc.org/. From there select Meetings. Then select the
Register for a conference or meeting and follow the instructions. Registration will be
available on-line until 21 June 2006

2)On-site registration. The AMS registration desk at the UCAR Center Green will be
open for registration on Monday, 26 June starting at 7:00 a.m. and Tuesday through
Friday during the hours of the conference.

Registration Rate

Registration rate for all Attendees: $75.00

REGISTRATION includes: your badge, program, admission to all sessions, daily
continental breakfast, lunches, coffee breaks and Monday evening Ice breaker reception
with a cash bar.

Getting There

Travel to Boulder
Air: Denver International Airport (DIA) is an international hub for air transportation. It is
located 40 miles, less than am hour’s drive, from Boulder; Ground transportation options
include the RTD buses, airport shuttles, and rental cars.

Train: AMTRAK provides service to Denver’s Union Station. A two block walk will bring
you to the RTD’s Market Street Station where there is frequent bus service to Boulder.

Ground Transportation

Shuttle van: Ground transportation is provided on an hourly schedule between Denver
International Airport and Boulder by Supershuttle (www.yellowtrans.com) The shuttle
cost is currently $38 per person round trip, assuming drop off and pick up at one the
local Hotels. To check the schedule and make reservations call Boulder Supershuttle (303) 227-0000. Shuttle drivers accept payment in cash, travelers’ checks, and major credit
cards.

Bus: The Regional Transportation District (RTD) (http://www.rtd-denver.com) provides
excellent bus service between Denver International Airport and Boulder (about a one
hour trip) every day of the week. Depending on whether your luggage comes to baggage
claim in the East or the West Terminal, you will need to check to see when you arrive
where you should meet the bus. If you wish to take the bus to Boulder from downtown
Denver, it can be boarded at the Market Street station located just two blocks east of
Union Station on 16th Street. The RTD schedule for buses between Boulder and Denver
can be accessed by calling (800) 366-7433 or accessing the RTD web site. The current
fare is $10.00 one way. You should get off the RTD bus at the Boulder Foothills Park and
Ride. A short tax ride will bring you to your lodging.

Taxi Cab: Taxis serving the Boulder/Denver area include: Yellow Cab (303) 777-7777 and Metro Taxi (303) 333-3333.
