With the ongoing dual-polarization upgrade of both National Weather
Service and broadcast television radars, on-air meteorologists need to have
a keen understanding of all the new data products to effectively
communicate information to the viewing audience. This session will focus
on explaining each of the new dual-polarization data products and their
application in an easy-to-understand format. In addition, numerous
interactive case studies of various weather scenarios will be presented to
provide participants with first-hand use of these new and informative radar
data products.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Judith at
jziemnik@ametsoc.org no later than August 1.
24 August 2012, Brookline,

Registration for this course will close on 22 August 2012. There will be NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION.
The paradigm of broadcast meteorology has changed. Newsrooms are increasingly relying upon weathercasters to inform the public about and add proper perspective to a number of related science and environmental issues. Broadcast meteorologists are now becoming "station scientists," with responsibilities far beyond "just" presenting the weather. This short course (as well as the station scientist session earlier that day during the conference) will provide weathercasters with a depth of knowledge about two of the most popular and important topics the public wants to stay informed about: climate change and astronomy.
