Leosphere is one of the leader of environmental observations using Lidar (Lidar Detection and Ranging – Radar-Laser) technology. This user-friendly technology allows a real-time tracking of atmospheric parameters such as harmful gases, particle pollution, humidity, wind and turbulence within a vertical range of 0 to 15km.
These systems are key instruments for meteorological agencies, airports, and atmospheric research offices because of their ability to deliver high-resolution data within extreme meteorological phenomena (e.g: hurricanes, storms, volcano eruption) and wind shear observations at airports.
AMS2012 is the opportunity to introduce our Aviation Weather Lidar range composed of our last innovation “R -Man510”, a Raman Lidar Super Ceilometer, dedicated to volcanic ash threats detection at cruising altitudes, as well as the “WINDCUBE200S”, new generation of long range scanning wind Doppler Lidar that addresses the landing and take off atmospheric related hazards: gust fronts, microbursts, windshears and wake vortices.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The 2012 exhibit will feature the company's work in environmental data collection, analysis and dissemination, including the following:
" GOES-R, the nation's next-generation geostationary weather system, will include improved spacecraft and instrument technologies, as well as a new, high-performance ground command and control and processing element. This will lead to significant economic benefits in the areas of weather and water, climate, ecosystems monitoring and management, and commerce and transportation.
" Full resolution movies from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory Atmospheric Imaging Assembly, which has gathered over a million solar images since initial operations in April 2010, and images from additional Lockheed Martin built solar instrumentation.
" WindTracer®, a Doppler lidar (light detection and ranging) system, is used for airport wind hazard applications, wind energy resource assessment and also meteorological research. WindTracer® provides advanced warning of wind hazards such as wind shear and is deployed to help prevent wind shear-related accidents at major airports. For wind energy, WindTracer® is unequaled in providing wind resource analyses over large spatial areas, assisting short-term forecasting, site assessment, and wind power production management.
" The Tactical Environmental Processor (TEP), a real-time weather data channel providing Naval radars with NEXRAD-quality characterization of precipitation, ducting and winds without impacting the tactical operation of the radar, currently in technology demonstration by our small business partner, Basic Commerce and Industries.
" Framework for FAA NextGen Weather Integration highlighting the NOAA 4D Weather Cube, FAA NextGen Network Enabled Weather (NNEW) and FAA NextGen Weather Processor (NWP). Demonstrates internal research and development work on integrating future weather products from the 4D Weather Cube, NNEW and NWP
" The National Weather Radar Testbed (NWRT), the first phased-array radar available on a full-time basis to the meteorological research community for technology evaluation and risk reduction in preparation for the future Multi-function Phased Array Radar (MPAR).
" Radiosondes, used worldwide to gather upper air meteorological data, and other in-situ sensors including expendable meteorological and oceanographic instrumentation.

High impact weather events exact enormous personal and economic tolls, primarily in the boundary layer where there is inaccurate forecasting due to inadequate thermodynamic data. Convection, lightning, wind shear and gusts, plume dispersion, fog and icing are all closely linked to boundary layer thermodynamics. These local events strongly influence air and surface transportation, homeland security, air quality, thermal and hydro-electric utilities, wind energy production, agriculture and construction. Continuous thermodynamic profiles with radiosonde-equivalent accuracy, and unique liquid soundings, are now available from Radiometrics MP-3000A profilers (www.radiometrics.com). State-of-the-art RAOB software (www.raob.com) automatically ingests thermodynamic (and wind) profiles and generates a full suite of Forecast Tools and Indices – the system of choice for high impact local weather applications. |

YES will showcase the latest XDD dropsonde and XDR radiosonde, featuring a more compact design, 4 Hz GPS, and sophisticated interference-resistant RF telemetry. The XDD can be either manually deployed or dispensed up to 40 at a time via the ADD Automated Dropsonde Dispenser. In addition to PTU+winds, the XDD measures sea surface temperature. In 2011, multiple XDD dropsondes were successfully intercompared against traditional dropsondes by the US Navy. The ADD dropsonde dispenser has been tested from manned aircraft and, in 2012, will be tested by NASA on its Global Hawk UAV. Meanwhile, the XDR radiosonde's ultralightweight design enables the use of smaller balloons to lower operating cost, while retaining state-of-the-art measurement accuracy and 4Hz time resolution. Also on display will be the TPS-3100 thermodynamic surface weather sensor that measures PTU+winds+solar and has no moving components to wear or freeze.
