The AMS Education Program promotes scientific literacy through the dissemination of geoscience information to undergraduate students and faculty, and in-service, pre-college teachers. AMS Weather Studies, AMS Ocean Studies, and AMS Climate Studies are introductory undergraduate-level courses developed by and licensed through the American Meteorological Society. The courses are offered in traditional lecture/laboratory, online, or blended learning environments by experienced science faculty or those new to teaching the subject matter. Each course includes a fully integrated set of printed and online learning materials, including a textbook, investigations manual, course website, and faculty resources. In addition to undergraduate course development, the AMS provides precollege teacher training in these same disciplines through instructional resource development and professional development courses using real-world current environmental data. The DataStreme courses and Project Atmosphere held at the National Weather Service Training Center, and the Maury Project at the U.S Naval Academy, provide free graduate credits to teachers. |

Through the Energizer Keep Safe. Keep Going® weather preparedness program Energizer, the American Meteorological Society and the International Association of Fire Chiefs are working together to encourage families to get prepared ahead of the storm by assembling emergency power kits, which can be used during power outages. Many home fires are started by burning candles left unattended, so using battery-operated flashlights and lanterns during power outages instead of candles could be lifesaving. The power kit should include a flashlight for every member of the household, a battery-powered radio to keep apprised of current weather situations, a battery-operated cell phone charger to stay connected and extra batteries for powering flashlights, lanterns and critical healthcare devices like hearing aids and blood glucose and blood pressure monitors. Visit www.energizer.com/preparedness for more information. |

New Mountain Innovations: "Innovations for a Sound Environment" we specialize in acoustic products that enhance our environmental. We discovered and patented Acoustic Mosquito Larvicide which has become a proven non-pesticide, environmentally friendly approach to killing mosquito larvae. Our NM150 Ultrasonic weather station is a seven sensor, multi-function weather station which uniquely integrates GPS. This system provides true wind from moving vehicles, specifically introduced by New Mountain Innovations for use in mosquito spray trucks. This improves application efficacy while reducing the impact pesticides can have on the environment. New Mountain Innovations has since added new software allowing this multi-function weather station to be use by a full range of customers including professionals, academia, research, industry and home use. Emergency personnel and homeland security experts can enhance first responders to hazmat situations by providing real time true wind indications in their vehicles. While knowing true wind to navigate an up-wind approach, exposure to potential toxic situations can be mitigated. A functional hardware demonstration of the NM150 is presented in our booth. |
