Minutes of the May 17, 1999 Meeting
Smoky Mountain AMS Chapter


The meeting began at 8:06 P.M. President Roy Hosker announced that a plaque and $50 savings bond from our chapter had been awarded to a student at the regional science fair. Joanne Logan reported that there was $174.90 in the chapter account with 25 currently paid members. Wayne Hamberger provided free maps of annual precipitation created by the PRISM project at Oregon State University. July 19, 1999 will be the date of the next meeting. It was suggested that the chapter meet at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Morristown, TN. Upcoming speakers include Grant Gooch from the National Climatic Data Center and Dale Kaiser from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It was also mentioned that Jim Renfro of the National park Service could perhaps speak to us about the ozone problem in the Park.

The technical program for the evening was presented by Ed Dumas from Oak Ridge Associated Universities and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He gave a wonderful presentation about the art and science of soaring.
