Portland Weather (cold) Milestone Reached Today
November 23rd, 2010
The Portland International Airport experienced its coldest November daytime high temperature in a quarter century on Tuesday. The high temperature at the airport reached just 30 degrees, which actually occurred just after 12 midnight early Tuesday morning just as the arctic front passed through Portland. Records date back to 1940 at the Portland International Airport. However, this was not a record for the day, as that was set on this date in 1985 when the mercury topped out at a bone chilling 27 degrees. The overnight record low for tomorrow (Wednesday) at the airport is 13 degrees, set last in 1985. That is also the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded at the airport in the month of November, which occurred in both 1955 and 1985. It is also interesting to note that the airport has only experienced 14 days in recorded history (1940-2010) where afternoon high temperatures have stayed below 32 degrees. All of those occurrences, until today, occurred in either 1955 or 1985. See details below. Here is a look at the coldest daytime highs and coldest nighttime lows at the Portland Airport (1940-2010) for the month of November ---
