November 22nd 2009 Storm Recap

During the early morning hours of Sunday, November 22nd 2009 a strong 987mb low pressure center and associated cold front raced ashore near Long Beach, WA. and tracked NE towards Olympia. A tight, yet short-lived gradient developed over NW Oregon leading to a 2-3 hour windstorm in the Portland area. PDX recorded its first 50+ MPH gust (from the south) since December 14th 2006. The storm came on the heels of a 980mb low that crashed ashore near Vancouver Island earlier in the week, driven by a strong SW flow aloft. These two storms prove that even in the midst of an El Nino, the weather can still get pretty exciting.
