2012/13 Membership Dues Update
Oregon AMS members, colleagues, et al:
As of summer 2012, the Oregon AMS currently has 165 paid members. As the single largest chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in the country, we are now positioned to continually provide our members with professional meetings for years to come. The strong growth we have experienced over the past few years is a testament to the dedication of every single one of our members and our executive council. With our growing membership, larger venues and quality guest speakers, comes the need to review our yearly membership dues. The last time we adjusted our membership obligation was ten years ago. Dues were adjusted from $5 to $7 per year. With the forecast for continued chapter growth and expenses related to securing venues, promotions, programs, etc... it has become necessary once again to adjust our yearly chapter membership dues. On 8/29/12, the Oregon AMS executive council unanimously approved a membership adjustment from $7 a year to $10 a year, beginning with the 2012/2013 season. In contrast, national AMS memberships are now approaching nearly $100 a year for full members. We will continue to allow members the option to pay ahead for additional years, if desired. More great things are coming to the Oregon AMS this season including guest speakers from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond! Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
