                   This is a non-profit organization dedicated to
                   promoting disaster safety and property loss mitigation. 

We will elect officers for the upcoming year at this meeting. If you are interested in becoming an officer, or would like to nominate someone, please notify one of the officers. You may contact any of the current officers to learn more about the positions.

Other News

Both the NWA and AMS offer scholarships to students in meteorology.

Applications for the NWA David Sankey Minority Scholarship in Meteorology and the Arthur C. Pike Scholarship in Meteorology are due by 15 April.

The AMS is assisting NOAA in administering information about their new scholarship program called the Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship. Please share this information with students who will be in their junior undergraduate studies in the Fall 2006. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is soon, 22 April 2006. The Hollings Scholarship information is located at: http://www.orau.gov/NOAA/HollingsScholarship/

Each year the AMS and NWA honor outstanding achievements by presenting a number of awards. Nomination deadlines for those awards are fast approaching. Links to the awards page for the AMS and NWA are listed below.

The NWA has $500 Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grants available to teachers of grades K-12. The grants are designed to help teachers improve meteorology education programs. Please share this information with teachers and schools in your area. The application deadline is 1 August. More information can be found at www.nwas.org/solhirsch.html.
