Our Mission "The development and dissemination of the knowledge of meteorology in all its phases and applications and the advancement of its professional ideals."
Membership
Membership in the North Texas Chapter is open to anyone who has an interest in meteorology, pays chapter dues, and agrees to abide by the chapter's constitution. Membership in the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association at the national level is encouraged, but is not required.
This Year's Chapter Meetings:
Date: Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Topic: The BarberWeatherWatch Web Site
Speaker: Dave Barber
Time: 7:00 pm CST
Location: WFO Forth Worth/Dallas - West Gulf River Forecast Center, 3401 Northern Cross Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76137 | Map |
Dr. Barber is a former weather forecaster, former teacher of meteorology and life-time weather nut. He is presently one of the pastors of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Although not presently engaged in meteorolgy for profit, he spends many hours developing software to download, decode, process, and display weather data. He also receives and post images from a lightning detection system, based in his home in Fort Worth.
While some of the analyses you will find on his Web site are similar to ones you might find on other sites, he makes an effort to include analyses based on his own techniques that give a somewhat different slant from what you will find elsewhere. Some of these analyses he has found useful (e.g., the Laplacian of surface equivalent potential temperature and surface geostrophic voritcity for severe wx forecasting); others are purely experimental (e.g., surface advection of potential relative humidity now available and the 300 mb diffluence and the maximum moisture transport plots to be added later).
