The North Florida Chapter of the AMS holds and participates in a variety of social events, all of which are designed to allow its members to meet and interact on an informal basis. Ranging from sporting events to weather-related functions, the chapter organizes social events around the comments and suggestions of its members.
During the 2004-2005 chapter year, the chapter continued to offer a wide variety of opportunities on a social basis for its members to interact as a group. In mid-August 2004, a group of three chapter members intercepted Tropical Storm Bonnie at St. George Island as it made landfall along the Florida Panhandle. For liability purposes, the chapter does not sponsor or condone storm chasing, but realizes that its members may well be interested in such an experience. Thus, for a taste of three such members' experiences, check out the Bonnie chase log. Other events over the past months include tailgating for the FSU-UF football game in November 2004, another bowling social at Crenshaw Lanes in October 2004, and numerous activities associated with the 85th Annual AMS Conference in San Diego, CA in January 2005. Events for the 2005-2006 year were numerous and may be found in the History section of the site. Future events will be announced on the chapter's webpage and at chapter meetings as they are planned, so please check back over the coming weeks and months for more information about the various social events of the North Florida Chapter of the AMS. The chapter also has a global group set up on Facebook. Please feel free to join for networking opportunities as well as reminders on meetings and other events. |
