Hurricane Town Meetings Overview

Since 2006, WCTV Channel 6, the local CBS affiliate in the Tallahassee region, has held a series of Hurricane Town Meetings across the Big Bend & South Georgia area. Among those involved are representatives from local emergency management agencies, the National Weather Service, the Red Cross, and the North Florida Chapter. These experts are invited to share their knowledge and information with the general public. The events are geared toward addressing the local agencies' roles in hurricane preparedness and response.

The meetings allow those in the community to ask questions about a number of topics related to hurricanes and hurricane preparation. As representatives of the academic community, the North Florida Chapter participates by presenting the educational and scientific aspects of hurricanes to the general public, focusing on why they hear what the television personalities and local managers are telling them with regards to hurricanes.
