Chris Bennett - 2004-2005 President

Chris Bennett moved to Tallahassee, Fl in August 2001 after graduating from high school. He originally hails from his hometown of Hoover, Al. After enrolling at Florida State University, he quickly put his love and passion for television and meteorology to work. He is currently the General Manager/CEO of the Student Broadcast Center at Florida State, a position he has held for three years. He also works as an instructor at the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee, putting his knowledge and love of science to work for the community. He firmly believes in service and leadership, two things he has put to practice through the many organizations he has served with in the past.

He was a member of the FSU Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, FSU ROTARACT as a founding member and executive board holder, and a member of the Student Academic Integrity Committee at FSU. He also serves his neighborhood and surrounding community as a former director of the board, and now President of the board of his homeowner’s association. He is also a member in national organizations such as the American Meteorological Society (AMS), Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), and Collegiate Broadcasters Inc. (CBI).

Chris is currently an undergraduate student at The Florida State University working towards dual B.S. degrees in Meteorology and Political Science. He will graduate in April 2005 with minors in mathematics and physics, and will also be awarded a certificate in emergency management. He plans on staying at Florida State University to seek a master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in strategic executive leadership and emergency management.

When he is not working, Chris enjoys spending time in the great outdoors and along Florida’s wonderful beaches. He regularly plays golf, enjoys hunting in the fall, and goes sport fishing in the blue water off Florida’s Panhandle.

Chris served as the first chair of the Science and Education Committee of the North Florida AMS during 2003-2004 before being elected President of the chapter in May 2004.
